In 1943, the Esplanade Park was built as part of a reclamation project. In 1953, the seafront
promenade was renovated and renamed Queen Elizabeth Walk, in celebration of Britain's Queen Elizabeth's II coronation and ascent to the English throne. The walk was officially opened by
Lady Yeun-Peng McNeice on 30th October 1953. It was known as a popular place for family and couples to enjoy the sea breeze and spend some quality time with each other. It was also a popular for photography.

Did you know?
The Esplanade Park was revamped in 1991 to improve the overall image of the Civic District area. It is currently home to many civic district monuments such as Lim Bo Seng Memorial, Cenotaph, Tan Kim Seng fountain and INA marker.
