This space supposedly
marks the original landing site where Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles first set
foot in Singapore. The white polymarble satue was cast from
the 1887 bronze statue, which stands outside the Victoria Theatre and Concert
Hall. It was placed in 1972 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the
founding of modern Singapore.
The entire site was undergoing heavy construction at the time of visit, with the statue of raffles covered up:
